Cable it up

Cables have always been a way to jazz up your knitting. Whether a garment, blanket, or accessory, adding braids to your knits can only make your piece that much more attractive. While many knitters may be frightened by the cabling process- taking stitches off your needles and twisting them every which way, it actually is simpler than it looks… lucky for us!

One fabulous way to try out this technique and end up with a great accessory, is to knit the Prada Headband from String Yarns. Seen all over the winter runway shows and in the window of Prada’s Madison Avenue boutique, this easy to knit headband is the perfect first cabling experience. And even if you are already a cable pro- this accessory is still a MUST HAVE.

Another great cable headband is Be Sweet’s “Big Apple Headband” – free pattern can be found on the label of their “Handspun Merino” yarn. Blog- http://waggledancing.wordpress.com/?blogsub=confirming#subscribe-blog

Once you have mastered the cabling process, there are endless possibilities. You can see cables featured in all kinds of knits including many home items, men’s sweaters, and fabulous cold weather garments. 2Kn has incorporated a cable into a summer cotton garment- very ambitious! This stunning drop stitch cable shrug is quite the statement and trendsetting piece! Check out some of their other cabled shrugs too!
